On 30 January 2025, the Center for the Study of Democracy will organise a public discussion on "Emerging Security Threats in Europe: High-Risk Criminal Networks, State-Sponsored Crime and Sanctions Evasion" at the Michelangelo Hall, Grand Hotel Millennium, Sofia.

The discussion will bring together European law enforcement agencies, leading organised crime academic experts, as well as municipal authorities, to address the threats posed by high-risk criminal networks. Among the speakers and participants will be representatives of Belgian universities, NGOs, municipal and police authorities, as well as EU institutions. A key focus of the event will be a preliminary look into the instrumentalisation of organised crime in Russia's war of aggression, including its strategic use in hybrid warfare and its involvement in facilitating sanctions evasion.
